CFX Artist

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is seeking a CFX Artist to handle dynamic character simulations including cloth, fur, feathers, and muscles using Houdini. The role involves working with the CFX Lead and TD to meet quality targets and deadlines, and requires strong knowledge of Houdini, Python, and VEX scripting.

Job Description

A CFX Artist is responsible for all aspects of dynamic character simulation (cloth, fur, feathers, muscles etc) for a variety of projects. Using the studio’s Houdini CFX pipeline and co-operating with the CFX Technical Director, the CFX Artist will be aiming to meet scheduled objectives & quality targets set across a variety of cloth, hair, fur, feathers and muscle set-ups & simulations. Working closely with the CFX Lead, CG-supervisor and director the CFX Artist will ensure various simulations fit the purpose of the story as well as elevating the characters connection with its surroundings. A CFX Artist must have a good understanding of the behaviour and aesthetic of various fabrics, hair, and anatomy. CFX Artist will be regularly submitting work to the CFX Lead for assessment and to receive relevant and accurate feedback where required in order to maintain quality of assets across the board. Deadlines will be set by their CFX Lead and a CFX Artist is responsible for ensuring they adhere to these schedules and they are expected to liaise with the CFX Lead and Production Coordinator to ensure visibility of task status and delivery times. A CFX Artists output is required to meet the desired quality/budget targets set by the Studio and the Head of Department. A CFX Artist is under the line management of the Head of Rigging & CFX.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the CFX Lead to address project solutions suitable to be adopted to solve problems.
  • Set up and run Cloth, Hair, Fur, Feathers and Muscles simulations using Houdini.
  • Create tools with Python and VEX scripts to generate solutions to help automate tasks.
  • Work with senior TD’s to develop and integrate tools into a robust pipeline.
  • Communicate with the CFX Lead and Production Coordinator to outline any schedule or delivery concerns.
