FULL DESCRIPTION

Property & Casualty Underwriter – New Business
Location: Bristol (Hybrid - 3 days per week in office)
Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 per annum + Benefits

The Role

You will generate new Property & Casualty business in line with underwriting appetite, applying sound judgement and operating within agreed authority levels. You will actively maximise trading opportunities by following a structured broker engagement approach, ensuring consistent interaction and development of key relationships. In this role, you will be accountable for delivering against regional financial targets, including top line growth, bottom line profitability, and expense management, by working to clearly defined KPIs. You will build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key broker partners, enhancing the insurer's presence in the local market and positioning yourself as a trusted point of contact. Strong negotiation skills will be essential as you work to secure new business and retain existing accounts, achieving favourable outcomes for both the client and the business. You will also contribute to the wider team by sharing market trends and technical insights, ensuring the business remains competitive and informed. Collaboration will be a key part of the role, as you will work closely with internal stakeholders, including claims and surveyor teams, to deliver a seamless service and support effective decision-making across the business.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong Underwriting experience ideally within commercial lines and with a focus on new business development
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong broker relationships
  • Consistent track record of meeting or exceeding targets, supported by strong negotiation and sales capabilities
  • Confidence in assessing and pricing risk appropriately, balancing commercial opportunity with disciplined underwriting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and functions
  • Well-organised, structured approach, focused on delivering results in a fast-paced environment
