Energy Markets - Operations Energy Trader
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring an Operations Energy Trader to manage real-time UK & Central Western Europe energy balances and market exposures from [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]'s assets. The role is based in Edinburgh or Perth and is a permanent, full-time position with a salary of £42,600 - £75,100 plus benefits.
The Role
Operations Trading supports our business by managing real time UK & Central Western Europe energy balances and market exposures from [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]'s assets and customers. Our generation assets include Wind, Hydro, Pumped Storage, CCGT & BESS and we are looking for a trader who can analyse the multitude of options available to these flexible assets and capture best value. This is a high-profile role, central to the success of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and will be at the forefront of the green energy transition supporting the growth of the whole business. The Operations Energy Trader is central to the real time optimisation and despatch of the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] energy portfolio, looking to minimise risks and maximise value.
You Will
- Manage the dynamic short-term energy portfolio for [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]. This will include ensuring our energy portfolio is economically despatched, scheduled and traded in a manner where we satisfy our legal, regulatory and market obligations.
- Have a primary focus on helping to deliver budgets, while managing [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and third party PPA assets and deciding appropriate trading strategies.
- Work with the team to continually evaluate the changing energy markets and products that [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]'s assets can provide.
- Appraise, recommend and execute trading strategies for short-term energy auctions, continuous energy markets, ancillary services and real time balancing mechanisms.
- Liaise with IT development team to ensure systems can support participation in target services.
You Have
- Previous experience of working within a similar role, with experience of working in a commercial environment preferred but not essential.
- Skills in data analysis, problem solving and a strong teamworking attitude.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the GB and Ireland energy markets desirable, but not essential as training provided.
- Strong attention to detail, comfortable working with numbers and common software packages.
- Flexibility and drive to succeed in a fast-paced operations environment with ability to make valuable decisions under time restrictions and operational pressures.
