Purpose of the Post

Reporting to the Senior Public Involvement and Engagement Manager, this is a pivotal role that will be integral to ensuring the patient and public voice is embedded at all stages in key programmes of work, namely the Big Data for Complex Disease driver programme, the BHF Data Science Centre and PEDRI.

Main Responsibilities

  • PPIE strategy and delivery: Lead on the development and delivery of the PPIE strategy for the Big Data for Complex Disease driver programme; work with Senior PPIE Manager and PPIE Officer to deliver the BHF Data Science Centre’s strategy; support the Senior PPIE Manager to deliver the strategy for PEDRI.
  • Embedding PPIE in our work: Lead and facilitate meetings with public contributors; undertake and manage involvement and engagement activities including focus groups, surveys, plain English summaries; review PPIE elements of research applications; develop methods to expand reach and diversity; build relationships with colleagues; collaborate with internal communications; horizon scan for visibility opportunities; lead recruitment of public contributors and provide training.
  • Developing PPIE best practice and collaborative working: Provide briefings for colleagues; coordinate public outreach initiatives; establish effective working relationships with partners; act as an ambassador; monitor and report on PPIE performance using digital approaches.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Experience of working with patients, carers and members of the public
  • Experience of running patient/public involvement activities
  • Experience of developing, implementing and evaluating PPIE strategies in a research environment
  • Experience of promoting engagement and involvement to stakeholders
  • Experience of writing content for public and research audiences
  • Understanding of health research and public sensitivities of using health data
  • Excellent planning, organisational, influencing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable

  • Experience with Hubspot, Eventbrite, Survey Monkey
  • Experience of supporting public campaigns
