PhD Opportunity - Stopping Medicines: Understanding Patterns and Consequences

Project Background

The project will use electronic health records (EHRs) to understand patterns of stopping medicines and how they differ by drug group and patients clinical history, and the real world effectiveness of stopping a medication using target trial emulation and other causal inference approaches. These methods could lend themselves to reducing the burden of polypharmacy and informing deprescribing guidelines.

Skills to be Gained

  • Curation and analysis of population-wide EHRs
  • Causal inference methods
  • Programming, data analysis, scientific writing

Requirements

  • Background in biomedical, mathematics, data science or related quantitative discipline
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis
  • Experience with routine health data, R, or Python is advantageous

Funding

Full UK PhD tuition fees, stipend at UKRI rates (£19,237 for 24/25), and research costs up to £5,000/year. Three-year award. Overseas students welcome but must fund fee difference.
