Research Director, Brain Health

  • Location: Primary base anywhere in UK, with travel to London and elsewhere
  • Salary: Suitable as a secondment
  • Type: Approx. 2-3 days per week for 2 years

About the Role

This is a national leadership opportunity to push forward a UK-wide data and infrastructure strategy dedicated to brain health research. The Research Director will work with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], UK DRI, and DPUK to accelerate trustworthy research data use for neurodegeneration, neurological conditions, and long-term brain health.

Purpose of the Post

We are seeking an established leader with an excellent track record in the use of large scale, multimodal data types in brain health research. The role involves providing strategic leadership, creating partnerships, and developing driver projects that exemplify the use of large-scale data for diagnosis, prevention, intervention, and care.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to bring together interdisciplinary research, clinical, data science, and wider stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain new partnerships across data science, neurological disease communities, NHS, industry, and patient groups.
  • Work with health data science communities to identify and build on existing exemplar driver projects.
  • Provide strategic direction and champion a team science approach.
  • Lead the development of strategic plans and strong stakeholder/investor relationships.
  • Contribute to funding applications to leverage additional resources.
  • Communicate the impact of data-enabled activities to diverse audiences.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Experience

  • Extensive experience in brain health research and understanding of health data science, including data linkage and analysis from various systems.
  • Proven leadership skills to provide direction and deliver change across the UK.
  • Ability to lead and inspire trust in stakeholders and build consensus.
  • Advanced understanding of complexities of using research and routinely collected data from different health settings and devolved nations.
  • Knowledge of innovative methodological and analytic approaches (e.g., AI/ML).
  • Well connected with neurological and health data science research networks.
  • Experience of working with patients and the public.

Skills
