Internal Communications Officer

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking an Internal Communications Officer to join its Communications and External Affairs team. This is a permanent, hybrid role with a salary of £35,700 - £38,000 per year, based flexibly in the UK with travel to London. The deadline for applications is 4 July 2023.

Purpose of the Post

This is a varied and exciting role within the busy Communications and External Affairs team at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], reporting to the Communications Manager, Data Infrastructure and Services. High quality and effective internal communications have never been more important at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], and the successful candidate will be at the centre of this, working with people across the institute.

Main Responsibilities

  • Help shape [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s internal communications strategy, working with the Communications Manager for Data Infrastructure and Services, and play a key role in its delivery
  • Develop and enhance [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s internal communications content and channels to improve information flows across the institute; deepen the engagement of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] staff, members and partners and give them voice; and support our culture and values
  • Create engaging, accessible and relevant content for a variety of internal communications channels, including Slack, email, digital platforms and online and in-person internal events
  • Build relationships with key people in teams across the institute and support them to create and disseminate news and information on our communications channels
  • Ensure that all staff and those affiliated with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] have regular updates about the organisation, and the opportunity to offer feedback and contribute
  • Work with the Systems Manager and People team to consider the best systems and communication channels to hold and communicate key information
  • Work with the People team to support their strategic focus on culture and values, and employee retention and motivation
  • Identify, develop and deliver communications and content that [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] members – those affiliated to us but based at other organisations – would benefit from
  • Ensure that decisions taken by senior executives are communicated in a timely and effective manner, increasing the profile of the Director and senior leaders and making all staff feel involved and informed about the strategic direction of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]
  • Support the organisation’s use of our CRM system, ensuring contact information is up-to-date
  • Use analytics to evaluate and report on internal communications activities, identifying opportunities to improve their impact
  • Act as a point of expertise for internal communications and change management across the institute
  • Work with the whole of the Communications team to deliver communications campaigns on our strategic priorities

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of internal communications for a fast-moving, dynamic organisation
  • Strong track record of delivering internal communications initiatives across a range of channels, including face to face and digital media
  • Building and managing relationships with key team members, partners and stakeholders
  • An understanding and ability to synthesise complex, technical information into succinct, crisp copy
  • Experience of managing digital platforms including content management systems

Desirable

  • Ability to write briefs for and manage freelancers and agencies to deliver a range of written and visual content
  • Experience of using CRM systems to support communications objectives
  • Understanding of metrics and reporting for communications activities
  • Experience and understanding of science or data research in industry, academia and/or healthcare

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and confidently with people at all levels
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Excellent editorial and proofreading skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent planning, organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with resilience and adaptability
  • Proficient IT skills
