Cloud DevOps Engineer

Salary: £50,000 - £58,000 per annum

Contract: Full Time, 12-month Fixed Term Contract (possibility of extension)

Purpose of the post

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] requires the services of an experienced Cloud DevOps engineer to work within its technology team, working on the Health Data Gateway and other software developed by [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]. You will primarily but not exclusively be working to enhance the Gateway to support our brain health initiatives. These include NEURii, the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative Data Pilots, Motor Neuron Disease (MND), Traumatic Brain injury hub and a collaboration between UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI), [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and Medicines Discovery Catapult (MDC), the Dementia Trials Accelerator (DTA). The DTA initiative is funded by the MRC, NIHR and the Office for Life Sciences designed to enable the UK Government Dementia Mission, with a vision to rapidly position the UK as the destination of choice for investment and innovation in the delivery of clinical trials of new therapies for dementia, rapidly delivering significant patient and NHS benefits.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that will develop an over-arching interoperable infrastructure that seeks to bring together dementia related UK data assets and ensures they are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reuseable (FAIR) and can support identification of relevant patient cohorts for participation in clinical trials. The successful candidate will be expected to work within an Agile software development team, providing pipelines and processes to support the Dementia Trails Accelerator Portal. This role will work closely with the existing cloud and devops staff to integrate new pipelines and processes into the broader [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] infrastructure, and be responsible for building, automating and testing systems.

Main responsibilities

  • Responsible for pipelines and processes for the Dementia Trials Accelerator and their integration into the existing [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] infrastructure
  • Support for the wider [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] infrastructure
  • Managing infrastructure using Infrastructure As Code (Terraform)
  • Building and maintaining the CI/CD Pipeline and Github Workflows
  • Managing Dev, Staging and Production environments
  • Responsible for tuning database persistence, search tools and application layer
  • Documenting and recording the process of deployment from development to production
  • Ensuring strategy and architectural decisions consider infrastructure implications
  • Work across brain health initiatives and the broader technology team to drive synergy and coherence from a DevOps perspective
  • Teamwork expectations: The DevOps role is a critical team role in Agile scrum; collaboration with software development colleagues on CI/CD, testing and fortnightly deployments; working with scrum master and test lead; collaboration with solution architect; strong collaboration with existing Technology team; flexibility to contribute to other projects

Skills

Essential:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of Docker
  • Demonstrable experience with GitHub Actions and CI/CD
  • Proficiency in writing, testing, and maintaining Terraform scripts to manage Infrastructure. Including Terraform modules & Terraform registry.
  • Clear communications skills and comfortable holding a critical high-profile role within the team
  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts (VPC, subnets, firewalls, load balancing, etc)
  • Proficient in English

Desirable:

  • Monitoring and maintenance of Kubernetes cluster
  • GCP certification
  • An understanding of research delivery within the public sector, academia and/or industry
