Environment & Sustainability Officer
[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is seeking an Environment & Sustainability Officer for a 5-month fixed-term contract based in Chelmsford. The role involves implementing carbon reduction plans, managing environmental data, attending client meetings, supporting audits (CCS, ISO 14001, PAS 2080), overseeing waste compliance, and assisting with bid submissions. The ideal candidate has a degree in a relevant field and experience in environmental and sustainability roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Carbon Reduction & Compliance - Implement our agreed carbon plan and promote carbon reduction activities across all MH contracts. Collate and analyse environmental and sustainability data using our in-house carbon calculator, monitoring corporate and contractual KPIs.
- Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement - Attend client meetings to report on KPIs, including carbon footprint data, waste generation, and material use statistics. Keep our environmental legal register updated and proactively prepare for changes in legislation.
- Training & Audits - Assist in the design and delivery of Environment & Sustainability training, policies, and processes across the business. Support external audits, including CCS, ISO 14001, PAS 2080, conducting site inspections, internal audits, and managing corrective actions.
- Waste & Compliance Management - Work alongside site supervisors, managers, and yard teams to ensure proper management of hazardous/non-hazardous waste while maintaining compliance with permits and regulations. Oversee COSHH assessments and legislation adherence.
- Bidding & Supply Chain Support - Assist with bid submissions and tendering processes, including bid writing and mobilisation. Help onboard and evaluate subcontractors and suppliers.
What We're Looking For
Mandatory:
- Degree in a relevant field and/or industry experience in environment and sustainability.
- Experience in an environmental and sustainability role.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Data Analysis.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of legislation related to the construction industry.
- Waste management experience/certification.
- Strong communicator, able to engage effectively at all levels.
- Passionate about driving sustainability culture and change in a business.
- Willing to travel to depots, sites, and client meetings.
