To provide Clinical and operational and professional support to the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Oncology Haematology and Technical Services in order to provide a high quality, efficient pharmacy service to patients and staff within [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].

To provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to patients within the Women & Children's Directorate ensuring the safe, effective, legal and accurate use of medicines within the speciality.

Main duties of the job

• Support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Oncology Haematology and Technical Services to deliver a clinical pharmacy service to Medical Oncology patients and users of products from the Technical Services Unit including screening and final checking prescriptions for cytotoxic, clinical trial materials, IV additives and extemporaneously prepared and over labelled products.
• Co-ordinate and assist in delivering training for pre-registration and junior pharmacists rotating through Cancer Services.
• Ward based clinical activities are focussed around delivering a clinical pharmacy service to a Women and Children's speciality.

Job responsibilities

• Work with the Clinicians in the management of Cancer and Haematology patients
• Screen Chemotherapy prescriptions including those for Clinical Trials
• Manage the outsourced chemotherapy products
• Support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Oncology Haematology and Technical Services in ensuring the provision of an efficient, safe and legal service by Technical Services.
• Support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Oncology Haematology and Technical Services to deliver a clinical pharmacy service to Medical Oncology patients and users of products from the Technical Services Unit including screening and final checking prescriptions for cytotoxic and clinical trial products
• Support the Chief Technician Technical Services to manage the operational aspects of the Unit including planning of workload and capacity monitoring.
• Support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Oncology Haematology and Technical Services in conducting audits to ensure that professional standards are achieved in Technical Services.
• Support the professional role and development of the rotational resident pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists within Cancer and Technical Services.
• Co-ordinate and participate in the training of pre-registration students, appraising their performance and liaising with tutors.
• Co-ordinate and participate in the training and development of other staff such as resident pharmacists.
• Contribute to the maintenance and development of Technical Services policies, procedures and standards and ensure that all staff are aware of their responsibilities within them.
• Liaise with heads of other pharmacy sections in order to develop and make the most effective and efficient use of staff.
• This role will act as the deputy Accountable pharmacist as well as the authorised pharmacist in the Technical Srvices unit

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

• Pharmacy registartion with GPhC
• Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent training / Experience
• Vocational Masters degree in Pharmacy + pre registration
• Fully BOPA Accredited

Desirable

• Independent Prescribing certification
• BOPA Accreditation
• Evidence of completion of the following the Aseptic Preparation & Dispensing of Medicines Course (University of Leeds)
• Evidence of completion of the Aseptic for Section Managers (London Pharmacy Education and Training) or equivalent
• Higher Degree / Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Practice- Oncology Module

Experience

Essential

• Experience in more than two clinical specialties
• Experience of training other healthcare professionals
• Evidence of strong Clinical knowledge
• Evidence of some service improvement

Desirable

• Evidence of accreditation to screen, final check and issue intrathecal cytotoxic chemotherapy
• Experience of education and training in a multidisciplinary environment
• Having experinece as Authorised Pharmacist in an Aseptic or manufacturinf department
• Having experience deputising for Accountable Pharmacist
