Locum Consultant in Breast Surgery

Contract Type: Fixed term. Duration: 12 months. Purpose: Maternity cover. This post is appointed on a fixed-term basis for the primary purpose of providing structured training and supervised clinical development.

Job Responsibilities
- To flexibly respond to the pressures and needs of the services, and to fulfil duties of the agreed weekly job plan.
- Maintain the highest standards of management of breast conditions and disease.
- To attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings of various types as appropriate.
- Wherever possible, emergency breast referrals are managed within the breast unit, during office hours. There is no requirement to participate in the General Surgery out of hours on call rota.
- You will have responsibility specifically for providing high-quality training within the breast unit alongside colleagues and clinical leads for that area.
- You will be responsible for the training and supervision of junior medical staff that work with them and will devote time to this activity on a regular basis.
- You will not have a formal Research component to their job plan however all clinicians are expected to actively support ongoing research themes and projects.
- You should be up to date with Good Clinical Practice and regularly engage with our dedicated Clinical Trials Team.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- An appropriate higher general surgery qualification (eg. FRCS)
- Participation in appraisal and revalidation
- Experience in breast surgery
- Experience in Surgical aspects of Breast Screening
- Experience in Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery
Desirable
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register
- Evidence of participation in research and service development
- Membership of the Association of Breast Surgery
- Postgraduate degree
- Oncoplastic Fellowship or equivalent
