Main Duties of the Job
You will be part of our friendly practice nursing team and wider multidisciplinary team, helping us deliver safe, effective and patient centred care. Duties include baseline observations, phlebotomy, ECG recording, wound care, chronic disease monitoring, health promotion checks, spirometry, room preparation, infection control, patient flow support, data entry, and communication.
Job Responsibilities
- Carry out delegated observations and baseline measures (BP, pulse, temperature, height/weight/BMI), recording accurately in the clinical system.
- Perform phlebotomy/venepuncture and handle specimens.
- Record ECGs and file/upload results.
- Provide wound care, dressings and simple bandaging.
- Support chronic disease and long term condition monitoring.
- Complete new patient and health promotion checks.
- Undertake spirometry where trained.
- Prepare and maintain clinical rooms.
- Maintain IPC standards.
- Support safe patient flow and act as a chaperone.
- Use IT systems for data entry and coding.
- Communicate clearly with patients and colleagues.
Person Specification
Experience
- Experience of working as a Health Care Assistant in Primary Care (Essential).
- Excellent practical and clinical skills (Essential).
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (Essential).
- Well organised, reliable and takes pride in high standards of care (Essential).
- Ability to work confidently and safely within protocols (Essential).
- Ability to use your own initiative (Essential).
Qualifications
- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths (Essential).
- Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care (Essential).
- Qualified in Phlebotomy (Desirable).
- Qualified to NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care (Desirable).
