We are recruiting two highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Forensic Occupational Therapist to join our forward thinking, friendly and expanding Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster ReFoCuS team. By joining our Community Forensic Mental Health Team you will have a real impact on promoting health & well-being of those with a forensic/offending history.
Main Duties of the Job
- To assess, plan and review health and social care needs under the Care Programme Approach (CPA) for a group of service users with a forensic/offending history, providing specialist OT assessments and interventions when required.
- The post holder will work as a Care Co-ordinator as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing OT interventions as required.
- This will include participating in an out of hours and on call service to provide support and guidance to service users, carers and other services.

Job Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of clients within CPA framework.
- Provide OT assessments and intervention using Model of Human Occupation.
- Provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations.
- Conduct comprehensive, culturally appropriate evidence-based assessments.
- Act as vocational lead within the team.
- Ensure continuity of care and timely discharge planning including Section 117 and CPA responsibilities.
- Act as social supervisor for restricted patients, providing reports to Ministry of Justice.
- Facilitate groups including health promotion, wellbeing and those addressing offending needs.
- Provide joint assessments with generic mental health teams where there is a forensic component.
- Ensure effective review of placements and out of area treatment packages.
- Ensure service user and carer views are central to care planning.
- Manage caseload work under CPA policy with robust crisis and contingency plans.
- Work within Child Protection and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Policies.
- Provide assessment and intervention for service users with substance misuse needs.
- Ensure robust clinical assessment and management systems.
- Maximise choice and independence of service users, promoting social inclusion and use of individualised budgets.
- Develop effective links with statutory, voluntary and private providers.
- Provide specialist forensic assessment to other Mental Health Teams and Criminal Justice Agencies.
- Support clients and carers in contact with the Criminal Justice System including acting as Appropriate Adult.
- Participate in Forensic Team out of hours and on call rotas.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
Essential: Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy; Registered Occupational Therapist (HCPC). Desirable: Post graduate training in mental health; qualifications in specialist skills; practice placement educators course.

Essential: Interpersonal skills; excellent communication; clear concept of OT; ability to work autonomously; partnership working; ability to determine impact of conditions on functional ability; ability to articulate values; individual and group work skills; project/audit/research skills; timely report writing; knowledge of personal recovery principles; ability to promote OT practice.
Attitudes, Aptitudes Personal Characteristics
Essential: Committed to MDT working; flexible; uses supervision effectively; committed to personal development; enthusiastic; self-motivated.
Previous Experience
Essential: Post qualification experience in mental health services; audit/research projects; developing service activities; using standardised OT assessments; managing resources; effective partnership working; Risk Assessment Tools; delivering CPA and social care assessments. Desirable: Forensic settings experience; supervising students/junior staff.
