Job summary
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Trust Resident Doctor (ST3 equivalent) to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Lung Cancer, Respiratory team. This post is ideal for a senior trainee seeking to develop expertise in lung cancer and interventional respiratory medicine. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in EBUS and pleural procedures, while developing key skills in lung cancer diagnostics, multidisciplinary team (MDT) working, and outpatient care. The role offers a structured and supportive environment with access to dedicated training opportunities, including bronchoscopy and pleural disease management. This is Fixed-term 12 months (01/09/2026 - 31/08/2027).
Main duties of the job
- Assessment and management of patients with suspected and confirmed lung cancer, including those on the 2-week wait (2WW) pathway
- Participation in Lung Cancer MDT meetings, including preparation and follow-up of patient management plans
- Attendance at lung cancer and general respiratory outpatient clinics
- Involvement in weekly EBUS lists and pleural procedure sessions
- Coordination of diagnostic investigations and patient pathways
- Support of the respiratory ward, including patients requiring advanced respiratory support
- The management responsibility of the post-holder will be to the Clinical Lead for Lung Cancer, Dr Andy Barlow.

Person Specification
Education and qualifications:
Essential:
- Eligible for GMC registration to cover the scope of employment (or eligible for MTI scheme)
- Completion of MRCP or equivalent
Desirable:
- Distinctions, Scholarships, prizes
- Degrees eg. BSc. Masters, PhD (or equivalent)
Knowledge:
Essential:
- Completion of adequate experience of hospital Medicine (either in UK or overseas)
- Awareness of role of clinical governance.
Desirable:
- Sufficient (or more) experience in respiratory medicine at a senior trainee level
- Knowledge of current issues in the NHS
Experience:
Essential:
- Wide experience in adult general medicine including
- Keeps professional knowledge and skills up to date
- Enthusiasm for teaching An awareness of current speciality specific developments and initiatives
Desirable:
- Demonstrates a critical and enquiring approach to knowledge acquisition
- Understands the purpose and process of basic professional training
