Job Summary

Fixed term/secondment for 11 months to cover maternity leave 23rd March 2026 to end date 22nd March 2027. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and skilled Band 6 Specialist CAMHS Nurse based in Tonteg Hospital. This post is part of our Rapid Intervention Service for Eating Disorders in Cwm Taf Locality. The post will 22.50 hours over two days weekly on a fixed term basis. This is an opportunity for an experienced Mental Health Nurse to work within our Specialist Eating Disorder Service. You will be expected to manage a caseload of young people with eating difficulties who may also have co-morbid mental health difficulties and you will have co-ordinated responsibility for patients. The role involves multi-disciplinary working and bespoke packages of care that are evidence informed. The post holder will carry out comprehensive assessments and interventions supported by the team within tier 2/3 CAMHS and hold their own caseload. Will be required to supervise HCSW and more junior staff where appropriate.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will be responsible in collaboration with the team for the mental health assessments and interventions of children and young people referred to our service; the ability to make balanced decisions and use a positive approach whilst managing potentially high pressure situations is an essential part of this role. The post involves interagency liaison with all local authority and third sector services. Child and Family Social Services, Education Department and other agencies, as required. This post will primarily be based within Tonteg but our service covers all areas of Cwm Taf Morgannwg and also operating from satellite base clinics in other areas across the Health board such as Bridgend Princess of Wales Hospital Bridgend, Mental Health Matters Union Offices in Bridgend, Dewi Sant Hospital in Pontypridd and Carnegie Clinic in the Rhondda. You may also be required to work with young people and their families within their own community/home setting. The ability to drive and to travel independently between clinics is essential. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential: RN (MH) Current NMC registration, Relevant post registration qualifications eg Family Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Eating Disorders, Self Harm, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Borderline Personality Disorder, Experience in teaching, Extensive knowledge in normal and abnormal child development, extensive knowledge in child and adolescent mental health issues. Desirable: Relevant degree, Evidence of CPD relevant to CAMHS, Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2).

Experience

Essential: Appropriate post registration experience, Experience of working within CAMHS or a therapeutic post with eating disorders and other mental illness with or without challenging behaviour, Experience of mental health assessment and implementation of a range of evidence based therapeutic interventions, Experience of working in partnership with other agencies, Ability to manage a case load, Working knowledge of health, social services, education and the voluntary sector, together with the relevant legislation regarding children's mental health, Management skills. Desirable: Experience of group teaching, Experience of audit.

Essential: Excellent assessment skills, Ability to manage anxiety effectively and work with young people with challenging behaviour, Flexible and adaptable to working conditions, IT skills, Ability to work on own volition, Good communication and time management skills.
