Job summary

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] are looking to recruit a caring and energetic Clinical Lead Dentist to lead our community dental team in Allerdale and Copeland. You will be leading a friendly, highly skilled workforce, who have the privilege of providing specialist dental care to patients referred to the service, including special care dentistry, conscious sedation, and general dental care under anaesthesia. Other essential services provided include oral health improvement and clinical prevention programmes, involvement in national dental epidemiological surveys and screening programmes and the provision of access to emergency dental care. The service is also an accredited trainer for inhalation sedation practice. We are looking for a dentist currently working at Senior Dental Officer or Clinical Lead level who has a desire to lead and develop our team delivering clinical excellence in community dental care. You will be working as part of a group of senior clinicians across Cumbria to deliver strong service performance and positive outcomes for service users. The successful applicant will be based primarily at Cleator Moor Dental Centre, a modern six surgery building with digital radiography, a bariatric surgery and wheelchair tipper. Main duties of the job

  • Support the Dental Service Clinical Director in the effective management and leadership of the Special Care and Community Dental Service within the Allerdale and Copeland locality.
  • Actively support the Clinical Director in developing the strategic direction of the service.
  • Be a highly visible, proactive and accessible clinical leader, acting as a role model and clinical resource.
  • Undertake clinical duties for up to six sessions per week.
  • May be required to participate in Out of Hours/On call arrangements.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential: BDS or equivalent; NHSE performer list number with no conditions/restrictions; Current GDC registration

Desirable: Dental post-graduate qualification particularly sedation/special care dentistry/paediatric dentistry; Management qualification or appropriate training; Post graduate educational qualification

Experience

Essential: Minimum 8 years clinical experience; Experience of Clinical Audit and evaluation and learning cycle

Desirable: Educational supervisor/clinical supervisor role; Policy and planning experience; Management of staff including recruitment, appraisal & staff development

Skills

Essential: Ability to plan, set objectives, priorities and review performance; Sound interpersonal skills - tact and diplomacy; Ability to work on own initiative but also a good team worker; Aptitude to learn and develop new skills; Good organisation and time management skills, including ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines; Effective written or report writing skills.

Desirable: Coaching and mentoring skills; Good presentation skills; Budget management
