Job summary

Applications are invited for one post of Senior House Officer ST1/2 in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], to start as soon as possible. The unit delivers 6000 women per year and has an equally busy gynaecology unit seeing 12 000 emergencies and 10 000 new referrals each year. It has an excellent reputation for education with protected time for teaching and consultant led educational supervision. This is a trust funded post and is ideal for a doctor wishing to pursue a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the future. Candidates with at least 6 months experience in a UK SHO post (NOT locum or clinical attachment) are eligible to apply. You will work closely with a highly competent multi-disciplinary team to delivery high quality outcomes for our patients and local communities.

Main duties of the job

  • Full-time equivalent to ST-1/2 level in obstetrics and gynaecology at GSTT working within the Directorate of Women's Services.
  • Obstetric duties: hospital birth centre (HBC), antenatal clinics, ward rounds on the antenatal and postnatal wards, elective theatre list on HBC.
  • Gynaecology duties: gynaecology ward round, outpatient clinics, one-stop outpatient minor procedure clinics, inpatient and outpatient operating sessions, emergency gynaecology sessions.
  • On-call rota alongside more senior clinicians for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  • Participation in maternity and gynaecology elective operating and outpatient appointments, as well as supporting emergency rotas in early pregnancy and the maternity assessment unit.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential: GMC registered, MBBS or equivalent. Desirable: BSc, MRCOG Part 1.

Experience

Essential: Minimum 6 months Obstetrics & Gynaecology experience as an SHO in a UK post. Desirable: Up to 12-months Obstetrics & Gynaecology experience as an SHO in a UK post.

Skills

Essential: Good basic knowledge of Obs & Gynae, Good communication skills, Able to work in a multi-professional team. Desirable: CTG Training, Taken active role in audit research.
