Job summary

Responsible to - Senior HCA and Lead Nurses. You are committed to general practice and can understand the benefits of working at a practice where staff development and progression are key. You will join a team of 2 practice nurses, 1 trainee nursing associate, 1 trainee healthcare assistant. Working hours are within a flexible shift pattern between 8.00am and 6.30pm Wednesday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

• Venepuncture (checking request forms, patient ID, equipment, drawing blood, labelling bottles)
• Blood Pressure, height & weight measurements
• Smoking status checks
• Urinalysis & processing of samples
• Assisting with contraceptive coil fits
• Completing NHS Health Checks
• Act as chaperone for patients
• Chronic disease management: supporting annual checks for diabetes, hypertension & CHD; diabetic foot checks
• Seasonal flu vaccinations
• Maintaining strict confidentiality
• Promoting effective communication within the team
• Partaking in clinical supervision
• Effective use of EMIS Web IT system
• Contributing to practice/team audit
• Keeping up to date with mandatory training
• Attending staff meetings and group training
• Assisting patients with self-care and self-management
• Working within policies (e.g., Infection Control, Chaperoning)
• Potential development with spirometry and wound management

Job responsibilities

You must have a deep understanding of health services, together with a passion for improving lives and improving healthcare. Previous experience as a HCA & phlebotomy qualification is essential.
