Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Haematology services at Nottingham University Hospital trust for a healthcare assistant who is enthusiastic, motivated and caring and keen to develop their knowledge and ability.
Toghill is a 22 bedded Haematology ward situated at Nottingham City Hospital.
We are a forward thinking division and we pride ourselves on teamwork, the delivery of high standards of care and patient safety.
We have a caring and supportive team dedicated to the delivery of effective patient care. Good communication skills and the ability to work flexibly as part of a team are essential.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Under direction and supervision of a registered nurse, carry out nursing procedures following verification of competency and assist with the care and treatment of patients;
This will include; assisting with meeting the comfort and hygiene needs of patients which will include washing/showering, oral care, escorting to the toilet, assisting with bed pans/commodes, making beds and dealing with dirty linen in accordance with procedures.
Assisting the registered staff with taking and recording patients temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure, completing fluid balance charts. Recording observations on electronic devices and where appropriate paper charts.
Assisting with meeting the dietary needs of patients which will include the distribution of drinks and meals, helping patients eat and drink as required.
Make verbal reports to senior nursing staff regarding the patients in the ward as necessary, ensuring effective coordination, communication and administration.

- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, including Maths and English
- RSA II or equivalent.
Desirable
- Professional Secretarial Diploma/qualification
Experience

- Experience working in a Personal Assistant role.
- Experience organising and delivering events.
- Experience working in a busy office environment.
Desirable
- Experience working within a large organisation
- Experience working in an NHS or private hospital setting.
Skills and knowledge

- Good time management skills, able to work to strict guidelines
- Excellent IT skills and computer literacy, including Microsoft Office with particular emphasis on Word and Excel
- Self-starter, ability to plan own workload, well organised, motivated, work with minimum supervision.
