Physiotherapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]'s Integrated Respiratory and Home Oxygen Service to work 30 hours per week in a variety of settings. The team provides evidence-based assessment and follow-up for individuals requiring urgent and routine respiratory management and oxygen therapy in the community, as well as rehabilitation and education. The role includes acute visits, chronic condition management, and pulmonary rehabilitation. You will need excellent communication skills, a full driving license, and post-graduate respiratory experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide acute response and chronic respiratory condition management including pulmonary rehabilitation across health and social care sectors.
  • Deliver long-term and ambulatory oxygen therapy to patients with multiple long-term conditions.
  • Undertake comprehensive respiratory assessments and home oxygen assessments.
  • Work collaboratively within the Integrated Respiratory and Oxygen Service team and with other health professionals.
  • Participate in audit, service development, and case management.
  • Hold a valid driving license and have access to a vehicle.

Job responsibilities

  • To assess respiratory patients and provide appropriate care including Pulmonary Rehabilitation sessions or home-based treatment.
  • To provide specialist advice, assessment, and treatment for patients with respiratory conditions in the community to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.
  • To provide specialist advice and treatment for patients on oxygen therapy.
  • To work autonomously and as part of the Integrated Respiratory and Oxygen Service team.
  • To undertake acute visits and educate patients and carers.
  • To maintain high standards of clinical practice using evidence-based methods.
  • To provide line management and mentorship to junior staff.
  • To participate in data collection and audit to support service improvement.
  • To contribute to the development of service protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • To ensure an approach that minimizes risk and places the patient at the centre of care.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Essential: Post-graduate experience with respiratory conditions (Asthma, COPD, Bronchiectasis, Interstitial lung disease); willingness to learn respiratory assessment; understanding of multi-disciplinary working; experience between primary and secondary care.
  • Desirable: Community experience; lone working; service development; blood gas analysis; leadership experience; clinical supervision.

Qualifications

  • Essential: BSc Hons Physiotherapy or equivalent; HCPC registered Physiotherapist.
  • Desirable: MCSP; further professional development; post-graduate qualifications in COPD, Asthma, Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Knowledge and skills

  • Essential: Team working; problem-solving; awareness of HCPC code; communication and interpersonal skills; clinical risk assessment; time management; supervision skills; IT skills.
  • Desirable: Broad knowledge of respiratory conditions; risk assessment processes; independent working; experience with community electronic records (e.g., System 1).

Special Requirements

  • Flexibility over hours; ability to work out of hours; full driving licence and vehicle; participation in on-call arrangements.
