Occupational Therapist
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Band 5 Registered Occupational Therapist to join The Cedars in Exeter. This is a 6-month fixed term/secondment role on adult inpatient mental health wards.
Job summary
We are searching for 2x Band 5 Registered Occupational Therapist to join us at The Cedars on Coombehaven and Delderfield ward, Exeter. Both wards are 16 bed inpatient Mental Health Ward that supports adults with mental health difficulties. This position is a 6 month fixed term/secondment.
Main duties of the job
- Assess patients functional and mental health needs and develop interventions that promote independence and wellbeing.
- Deliver individual and group therapy, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care and effective discharge planning, and adapt treatments based on patient progress.
- Educate and support patients and families throughout recovery.
- Maintain accurate record-keeping and contribute to service development.

Person Specification
Knowledge
Essential:
- Clear understanding of core OT skills and theory.
- Awareness of the implications of long-term institutional care.
- Basic knowledge of health legislation and current practice including CPA and risk assessment management.
- Awareness of legal implications of the Mental Health Act and other legal frameworks specific to the setting.
Experience
Essential:
- Application of the OT Process.
- Use of standardised / functional assessment and activity analysis.
- Previous Band 5 post (or training placement equivalent).
Qualifications
Essential:
- Bsc Hons Degree in Occupational Therapy or Diploma from COT.
Skills
Essential:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
- Ability to work on own initiative as part of MDT & Occupational Therapy Team.
Desirable:
- Group work skills.
- Able to participate in physical activities and assist with physical interventions in the management of violence and aggression if required by the service.
