Job summary
Lead Wound Care Service for Patients in Huddersfield
From April 2026, the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] delivers a gold-standard wound care service for patients of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], and patients registered with other Practices in Huddersfield as part of a Lead-model enhanced service. This is expected to run for at least 3 years, and this role is primarily to support the same.
In line with our recruitment ethos, we are always happy to explore and support personal development in our colleagues. Therefore, after 2 years in post as a (primarily) wound care nurse, we will consider enrolment onto Practice Nurse courses in long term condition management, cervical screening, vaccinations and immunisations (including travel) etc. to support the right candidates with transition into GP Practice Nursing.
Main duties of the job
- Level 1 wound care duties may include:
- Suture and clip removal
- Management of grazes and skin tears
- Simple dressings
- Pin site care
- Basic cavity dressings within competency
- Lower leg wounds not requiring compression therapy or specialist Tissue Viability input
- Level 2 wound care duties may include:
- Wound assessment and diagnosis
- Advanced wound treatment and dressings
- Compression bandaging
- Doppler assessments
The role will also include a range of general nursing duties to support the wider practice team; however, this is not a full Practice Nurse role.
There is an opportunity for further professional development, including access to Practice Nurse training courses after 2 years in post, subject to service needs and performance.

Additionally, we run regular team meetings to support shared learning and development, whilst ensuring any issues are addressed promptly.
Job responsibilities
- Level 1 wound care duties: Suture and clip removal, management of grazes and skin tears, simple dressings, pin site care, basic cavity dressings, lower leg wounds not requiring compression therapy or specialist Tissue Viability input.
- Level 2 wound care duties: Wound assessment and diagnosis, advanced wound treatment and dressings, compression bandaging, Doppler assessments.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential: NMC Registered Nurse, Wound care training
Desirable: Level 2 wound care training - eg compression bandaging, and dopplers.
Experience
Essential: Experience treating and caring for people with wounds, to support the healing process.
Desirable: Experience working in a specialist wound care clinic environment
