Job summary

You will work trust wide, be a highly skilled, motivated midwife who will be responsible for ensuring staff training is of a high standard. The Practice Educator Midwife will engage effectively with clinical leaders to ensure training meets the needs of the Maternity Services workforce as well as National and Local Guidance. The Practice Educator Midwife will ensure that staff are provided with training which will enable them to provide safe, high-quality care within all maternity settings including inpatient and outpatient services. This will be achieved through formal teaching, simulation training and bespoke training needs for individuals and groups.

Main duties of the job

You will play a key role in the development and the supporting of maternity staff through education and training. Education and training are a pivotal part of ensuring the workforce are safe practitioners and you will enhance the current measures the Trust and Division has in place to ensure clinically sound staff. Collaborative working is essential for training to meet the needs of the multidisciplinary team and individuals who require additional support, and it would be the responsibility of the practice educator to develop training which meets their needs as well as meets National and Local guidance. It is an expectation that you will lead on the structure and co-ordination of learning activities across the Division ensuring the provision of high quality, multi-professional learning environments. The practice educator will be responsible for the development and implementation of effective clinical workforce training and development strategies, to ensure the development of a flexible and sustainable maternity workforce. You will be responsible for working locally within services where inter-professional learning opportunities can be promoted and provide expert knowledge to both trained and untrained staff by acting as a positive role model and setting high standards within area of practice.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

  • Essential: Degree or equivalent in Midwifery; Registered UK NMC Midwife; Evidence of post qualification CPD
  • Desirable: Masters; Leadership qualification

Knowledge, training & experience

  • Essential: Previous experience as a band 6 or above; Demonstrate evidence of clinical practice; evidence of clinical skills/knowledge within the speciality
  • Desirable: Evidence of development/supporting of staff; Experience of critiquing clinical evidence
