Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the leadership team of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] in our journey for further Improvement. Applications are invited for the position of Blood Transfusion Lead across both Queens Hospital, Romford and King George Hospital, Goodmayes. The successful applicant will need to be enthusiastic in sharing our vision of a high-quality transfusion service at BHR with the potential to be part of a Pathology network. The applicant must be suitably qualified and highly experienced in Blood Transfusion sciences. The role is to provide management for the Blood Transfusion Department, working closely with the Head of Department to coordinate, develop and transform the efficiency and quality of the Blood Transfusion service. The post holder will have direct line management responsibility for Staff that work within the Blood Transfusion Department and lead the team in meeting both regulatory, including the EU Directive on Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 (MHRA), UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and SHOT standards and requirements.

Main duties of the job

To manage the transfusion laboratory Service at the trust. To supervise the technical work and lead a team of Biomedical Scientists and support staff to provide a high quality, efficient and effective service which supports the objectives of patient care and resource management within the hospital. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all local and national policies relating to blood transfusion practice are implemented and observed by all staff.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential: State registered with HCPC, Master's degree or equivalent. Desirable: Management qualification, Current IBMS membership, Evidence of CPD.

Experience / Knowledge

Essential: Extensive post HCPC registration, Previous supervisory experience as Senior in Haematology/Blood Transfusion, Comprehensive up-to-date knowledge of Blood Transfusion. Desirable: Previous management experience as Lead in Blood Transfusion.
