Healthcare Assistant
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Healthcare Assistant for Churchill ward at The Harbour in Blackpool. This is a full-time, permanent role within the NHS Agenda for Change pay scheme, Band 3. Salary: £25,760 to £27,476 per annum. Closing date: 21 May 2026.
Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a healthcare support worker (HCA) on Churchill ward at the Harbour. This post is ideal for highly motivated and compassionate individuals who want to deliver high standards of care to individuals on a busy female acute ward. Interventions include spending 1:1 time with patients, using compassion and empathy, supporting the wider team in infection prevention and control, and proactively delivering patient-centered activities on the ward.
Main Duties
- Ensure a friendly and helpful attitude to patients, visitors and colleagues.
- Enable patients to maintain contacts in the community.
- Maintain effective working relationships with the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide verbal feedback to colleagues regarding patient presentation.
- Attend and participate in handovers.
- Interact with patients using skills to overcome barriers in an empathic manner.
- Monitor patient health and well-being and report changes to the Nurse in Charge.
- Support with IPC and cleaning duties, meal service, escorting patients, and utilising approved physical interventions (PAS) when required.

The minimum salary threshold for Skilled Worker visas has increased to £25,000 per year; this Band 3 position does not meet the criteria. Applicants on Student Visa or Graduate Route Visa cannot be progressed. All applicants must have unrestricted right to work in the UK for the duration of the role.
Person Specification
Education/Qualification (Essential)
- NVQ Level III or Higher in Health and Social Care or QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care, or an interest in completing the above training, or equivalent skills/knowledge gained through work (paid/unpaid).
Knowledge (Essential)
- Demonstrates understanding of issues surrounding mental illness.
- Understands duties under the Data Protection Act regarding patient confidentiality.
Knowledge (Desirable)
- Basic IT skills.
Experience (Essential)
- Working in a caring environment (nursing home, care home, hospital ward, home carer, etc.).
- Up-to-date or working knowledge of de-escalation techniques, control and restraint, and Management of Violence and Aggression (MOVA).
- Working as part of a team.
Experience (Desirable)
- Experience of caring for people with mental health conditions.
- Experience of updating electronic records.
Skills and Abilities (Essential)
- Works in a non-judgemental manner and communicates effectively with a wide range of people.
Work Related (Essential)
- Support colleagues when undertaking MOVA techniques.
