Job Summary

Hillingdon Speech and Language Therapy team is a friendly, enthusiastic team providing high quality services for the diverse population of the London Borough of Hillingdon. Due to a staff member leaving, we have an opportunity for a 0.55 WTE (20.6 hours per week) Part Time band 6 speech and language therapist to work in our Early Years Team alongside our SLT Assistants. The hours can be flexible (e.g., 3 longer or 4 shorter days). We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible and innovative therapists with a special interest and knowledge of working with children with a range of difficulties.

Main Duties of the Job

  • To provide a specialist service to pre school children with speech language and communication needs/ Social communication differences
  • To be responsible for providing specialist assessment and diagnosis of children within Early Years settings
  • To provide specialist ongoing therapy through individual therapy sessions and groups where appropriate
  • To provide advice and training to parents and other professionals around early identification intervention and prevention.
  • To contribute to, and provide feedback about, possible developments in the team

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent)
  • Health and Care Professions Council licence to practice
  • Registered member of RSCLT
  • Further training courses relevant to the post

Previous Experience

  • Experience of working with pre school children as a therapist
  • Experience of assessing pre school children
  • Experience of delivering training/parent workshops
  • Experience of offering informal support to less experienced colleagues
  • Experience of working in a multiagency/multi-disciplinary team

Skills and Knowledge

  • In depth knowledge of assessment tools relevant to school age and preschool
  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to pre school age children
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance
  • In-depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapy approaches
  • Experience of contributing to an audit
  • Good knowledge of the roles of other professionals relevant to pre school children.
  • Good knowledge of standards of record keeping
