FULL DESCRIPTION
Principal Planning Officer
Location: South West England (Devon) – Hybrid
Salary: £53 - £54 Per Hour
Type: Contract (12-month maternity cover)
The Role
As a Principal Planning Officer, you will:
- Manage a caseload of planning applications, listed building applications, consultations, agreements and appeals
- Prepare reports and recommendations in line with planning legislation, policy and guidance
- Undertake site visits, negotiations and stakeholder consultations
- Represent the Council at hearings and public inquiries where required
- Provide professional planning advice to applicants, agents and internal stakeholders
- Support the wider Planning team with complex or high-profile applications as needed
Contract Details
- Duration: 12-month maternity cover contract
- Location: Hybrid working - approximately 1 day per week / 2 days per fortnight in the office
- Interviews: Week commencing 18th May 2026 (via Teams)
- Requirement: Must have access to own vehicle for site visits
- Level: Opportunity suitable for Principal Planning Officer or experienced Senior Planning Officer level candidates
