[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Locally Employed Regional Anaesthesia Fellow. This is a full-time, fixed-term (12 months) role based at Queens Hospital, Burton on Trent. Salary: £65,048 per annum plus enhancements for out-of-hours working. The job is now closed.

Job Summary

The Anaesthetics Department at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] co-ordinates the provision of a comprehensive anaesthetic service. The appointee will be supervised by a team of consultants providing anaesthetic support to a wide range of surgical specialties. [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] provides services for Trauma and Orthopaedics, ENT, Faciomaxillary Surgery, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Urological Surgery, and Ophthalmic Surgery.

Main Duties of the Job

The Regional Anaesthesia Fellow will play a pivotal role in advancing the department's commitment to excellence in regional anaesthetic practice and education. The position comprises predominantly clinical regional anaesthesia activity alongside active engagement in the department's regional anaesthesia teaching and course delivery programme.

Job Responsibilities

The job plan comprises approximately 80% delivery of high-quality locoregional anaesthesia across orthopaedic, trauma, and rib fracture block services, and 20% contribution to teaching and course delivery. The fellow will be resident on call as part of the anaesthetic rota (1:8), covering Theatres, Obstetrics, or Intensive Care. Person Specification

Clinical Knowledge & Skills

  • Essential: Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training, evidence of competency in obstetric anaesthesia, demonstrable interest in regional anaesthesia.
  • Desirable: Minimum 1 year NHS experience, training for UK Anaesthesia Specialty Training, prior exposure to high-volume locoregional anaesthesia, experience in ultrasound-guided regional anaesthetic techniques, experience in regional anaesthesia for acute pain and rib fracture management.

Teaching Experience, Audit and Research

  • Essential: Evidence of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students, knowledge and experience of teaching clinical skills, ability to apply evidence-based research.
  • Desirable: Teaching courses or qualifications, academic and research achievements relevant to regional anaesthesia.

Qualifications & Eligibility

  • Essential: MBBS/MBChB or equivalent, FRCA primary or equivalent, ALS, evidence of competency in regional anaesthetic techniques, experience in teaching, full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
  • Desirable: Additional higher medical/scientific degree, ESRA Diploma in Regional Anaesthesia, completion of a recognised regional anaesthesia course, postgraduate degree in education/simulation.
