FULL DESCRIPTION

Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Adult Mental Health

Are you looking for a role that is transformative, meaningful and professionally stretching? Do you enjoy building relationships, problem-solving and advocating for people whose communication needs are often overlooked?

We are seeking a proactive, compassionate SLT to help shape a developing service for adults with complex communication and swallowing needs within the acute mental health setting at Hafan y Coed, University Hospital Llandough.

The service is growing, the need is clear, and you will play a central role in establishing SLT as an essential part of the multidisciplinary team. You do not need extensive mental health experience--your curiosity, person-centred approach, creativity and collaborative spirit matter most. Our supportive SLT team has a strong track record of developing clinicians in new specialist areas, offering full supervision, CPD, shadowing and ongoing guidance.

You will provide specialist assessment and intervention, support MDT decision-making and capacity assessments, train and empower ward staff, shape pathways and advocate for patients whose needs may otherwise go unnoticed.

You will join a motivated, development-focused team with strong leadership, opportunities to innovate, and access to specialist networks and supervision. Whether you are an experienced Band 7 or a Band 6 ready to progress, we would love to hear from you. Apply now and help build a service that improves safety, equity and dignity for adults with mental health needs.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be required to work effectively in collaboration with the full multidisciplinary team to promote the development, planning and delivery of intervention programmes, working closely with other services and the patient's support networks.
  • The post holder will provide advice, guidance and training to other professionals, including SLTs, in the specialist clinical area.
  • The post holder will undertake best practice projects, complex audits and research initiatives and provide clinical supervision/mentoring for more junior SLT's and assistants.
