Phlebotomist
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Phlebotomist at The Holbrook and Shotley Practice in Ipswich. This is a part-time, permanent role (approx 20 hours per week) with a start date as soon as possible. The closing date is 12 May 2026.
Job Summary
The Holbrook and Shotley Practice are looking to welcome an experienced and qualified phlebotomist into our busy practice on a part-time basis, for approximately 20 hours per week to support our nursing team. Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team.
Main Duties of the Job
- Collecting samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring correct storage, labelling, recording and efficient dispatching of samples
- Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
- Checking patient identification against GP or nurse request, and confirming with the patient whenever possible
- Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
- Notifying the GP of any significant patient issues
- Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team

The practice team comprises three GP partners, two salaried GPs, supported by a highly experienced team of nurses, dispensers, paramedics, and reception team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- Minimum of a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification or experience
- Relevant qualification and clinical knowledge and skills in venepuncture
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting, ideally within primary care
Experience
Essential:
- Ability to record accurate clinical notes
- Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues
- Ability to communicate effectively, and to understand the needs of the patient
- Strength in problem-solving, with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required
- Flexibility and an adaptable approach
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
