Clinical Scientist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified Clinical Scientists to join the Rare Disease Service within the All Wales Medical Genomics Service for 37.5 hours per week. These are permanent, full-time posts based at Canolfan Iechyd Genomig Cymru / Wales Genomic Health Centre. There is a requirement for onsite working.

The post holder will support the delivery of our Rare Disease Services including expanded in-house delivery of WES and WGS based services.

Experienced applicants who are not yet registered will be considered.To be eligible, candidates must provide evidence at interview of having completed at least 75% of their relevant training programme. Applicants will then be expected to achieve HCPC registration by no later than October 2026.

Main duties of the job

The All Wales Medical Genetics Service (AWMGS) provides a comprehensive clinical genetics and laboratory service to the 3 million residents of Wales. Welsh Government and the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee (JCC) are investing £10 million over 3 years in the AWMGS to ensure equitable patient access to genetic testing across the UK and development of the best diagnostic genetic services for patients.

The post holder would be joining a friendly, dedicated team and will be responsible for delivering genetic services for a range of inherited disorders guided by clearly defined procedures. To include providing highly specialist clinical analysis including complex interpretation and reporting that may require MDT participation. It is expected that the post holder will have demonstrated evidence of leadership skills and of taking personal responsibility to improve service delivery (within the scope of their current role). The Directorate encourages personal development and you will be expected to actively participate in the appraisal process.

In addition, the post holder will have devolved responsibility for supporting the management for a component of the service delivery of their section (e.g. Quality, Training, the supervision of rotas). The post holder may co-lead service developments with the head of the section.
