Job Summary

We are looking to recruit a 0.6WTE team lead Therapeutic Radiographer (Band 7) to come and join our friendly team here at the Worcester Oncology Centre. Your working days will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. As a team lead you will lead a team of radiographers within the treatment or pre-treatment area. Where are we? We are based in a new bespoke purpose-built building on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site, with beautiful views of the Malvern Hills and the Cotswolds. Worcester is a thriving city on the banks of the River Severn, close to areas of outstanding natural beauty. Who are we? We are a small friendly team of approximately 35 radiographers. We have 3 Elekta Linacs, 2 of which are capable of 4DXVI as well as an SXR unit and a Cannon wide bore CT scanner as well as Raystation planning system on which you'll carry out Vsim planning. We are paper light utilizing Mosaiq which is shared with University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire. We strive to ensure that all patients are treated in a supportive and calming environment. We provide placements for undergraduate students from Birmingham City University.

Main Duties of the Job

  • A widely skilled and experienced practitioner leading a small team of radiographers providing clinical technical services using a range of highly specialist Radiotherapy Treatment and planning equipment.
  • The postholder will be responsible for managing the caseload, staff and equipment of their designated area, maintaining associated records and delivering evidence based patient centred care.
  • The department provides clinical placements for student and Radiographers and the postholder will be expected to participate fully in the supervision, training and assessing of students as well as the development of less experienced staff.

Job Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the correct interpretation, application and delivery of routine and complex Radiotherapy treatment prescriptions using expert clinical skills.
  • Ensure that highly specialist Radiotherapy equipment is used safely and accurately within the tolerances defined for the technique/procedure and in accordance with manufacturers guidance and departmental protocols.
  • Undertake verification processes evaluating the accuracy of treatment using portal imaging or CBCT.
  • Approve and clinically justify any deviation from department protocols.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that in-vivo dosimetry measurements are undertaken for patients receiving external beam treatment.
  • Undertake treatment routine and complex localisation procedures using a CT scanner.
  • Identify and undertake appropriate pre-treatment processes for both simple and complex treatments including production of vsim treatment plans, input and checking of treatment critical data using Mosaiq, electronic checking of complex treatment prescriptions, collation of all treatment accessories.
  • Undertake final check of all treatment parameters and processes to ensure they are correct and compliant with department protocols.
  • Provide clinical/technical advice on Radiotherapy treatment to members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Take individual professional responsibility for the accurate delivery of treatment to radiotherapy patients ensuring adherence to ionising radiation regulations.
  • Undertake Out of Hours and On-Call duties to support full service delivery.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills (Essential)

  • Extensive knowledge of routine and highly specialist Radiotherapy techniques including SABR and associated requirements for patient care
  • Mentor / assessor training
  • Awareness of SOR / RCR guidance for verification (such as on target 2)
  • Able to teach clinical skills to others
  • Able to analyse problems and take appropriate action within a limited timeframe

Experience (Essential)

  • Extensive UK post qualification experience with some experience in a senior capacity using a wide range of techniques and equipment
  • Experience of developing and implementing new techniques / protocols
  • Supervising junior staff

Qualifications (Essential)

  • BSc Radiotherapy or equivalent
  • HCPC Registration
