Junior Clinical Teaching Fellow in Acute Medicine

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] - Barnet Hospital, London - £52,656 a year - Full-time - Fixed term - Closing date: 12 May 2026

Job summary

We are pleased to advertise an exciting position for a teaching fellow with a 50:50 split between medical education and a clinical role in Acute Medicine. This is a 12- month post starting in August 2026 and most suitable for a doctor who has completed foundation training and is planning to enter, or in the early years of, medical training.

The medical education role centres around the organisation and delivery of teaching to medical students during their rotations in Acute Medicine. The [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is a central University College London (UCL) Medical School campus that teaches hundreds of medical students, at all stages of learning, every year across it's multiple sites. Most of the medical students working in Acute Medicine are in their final year of MBBS, and we are constantly improving and innovating the timetable and educational opportunities that we offer. The post holder will also participate in the busy and varied programme of undergraduate teaching and assessments delivered by a growing faculty of education fellows across the Trust. In addition to undergraduate teaching, we are keen for the postholder to get involved in education throughout the Acute Medicine department, which may involve contributing to departmental teaching and collating feedback for our Local Faculty Group meetings. There will also be opportunities for MDT teaching (including for PAs and ACPs) and involvement with simulation.

Main duties of the job

Alongside the education role, the postholder will be part of the Acute Medicine team which will include working on the 'Hot Floor', seeing patients in same day emergency care, on the acute admissions unit, and out-of-hours reviews of medical inpatients. This is within a friendly and supportive team with consultant supervision and providing opportunities for workplace-based assessments, learning procedures and developing clinical skills. The postholder will be welcome to attend the wide and varied programme of educational meetings, and can access teaching specific to postgraduate exams if relevant. The appointed doctor will be part of the medical on-call rota.

This role will suit enthusiastic and motivated doctors with an interest in education, and will provide excellent clinical and educational experience for the progression of a career within the medical specialties. It is a flexible post which offers the opportunity to be involved with undergraduate teaching, curriculum development and student assessment, while also maintaining core clinical skills.
