FULL DESCRIPTION

Speech & Language Therapist

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist for the Children, Young People and Families Service (CYPFS) in Plymouth. This is a permanent, full-time role (37.5 hours per week) providing speech and language interventions across community clinics, early years settings and mainstream schools.

  • Salary: £32,073 - £39,043 per annum (pro rata)
  • Location: Plymouth, Devon (with travel across the city)

Main Duties of the Job

To provide an independently managed speech and language service to a mixed paediatric caseload with support from senior colleagues. Duties include assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment planning, training for teachers and assistants, and multi-agency working. The post holder may be required to work anywhere in the city.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical: Independently manage personal caseload, undertake formal and informal assessments, propose differential diagnoses, deliver therapy in schools and clinics, write clinical reports (including EHCPs), supervise assistants, and participate in multi-agency meetings. Professional: Maintain HCPC and RCSLT registration, engage in CPD, follow clinical governance, and contribute to service development.

Person Specification

Essential: Experience with paediatric caseload, specialist graduate education in SLT, RCSLT membership, HCPC registration, knowledge of assessment tools and therapy approaches for SLCN, excellent communication skills, and ability to travel independently. Desirable: Experience working unsupervised, supervision of assistants, placement education, knowledge of Makaton.
