Head of Clinical Practice – Integrated Urgent Care Services

This is a full-time, permanent role offering a salary of £70,000 per annum. The position is national with hybrid working and travel to sites and [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Group head office in Southampton as required.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Professional Practice

  • Provide visible, credible leadership across multidisciplinary teams
  • Lead the implementation of evidence-based clinical practice
  • Promote a culture of openness, accountability and continuous improvement
  • Support and develop clinical leaders through coaching and mentorship
  • Strengthen clinical leadership capability and succession planning across services

Workforce Leadership & Clinical Performance

  • Lead the development of a highly engaged multidisciplinary workforce including Nurses, GPs, Paramedics and Healthcare Assistants
  • Support workforce planning, rota resilience, job planning and skill mix optimisation
  • Ensure high standards of clinical decision-making, professional practice and record keeping
  • Oversee recruitment, induction, appraisal, revalidation, supervision and competency assessment
  • Lead clinical performance management and early intervention
  • Champion staff wellbeing, engagement and retention

Clinical Governance, Quality & Patient Safety

  • Provide senior clinical oversight of incidents, complaints and investigations
  • Strengthen governance systems for safeguarding, patient safety, audit, infection prevention and patient experience
  • Ensure services maintain inspection readiness and compliance with CQC and NHS standards
  • Promote a strong culture of patient safety, openness and learning
  • Use governance and performance data to drive improvement

Strategy, Improvement & Innovation

  • Lead delivery of the clinical strategy for urgent care services
  • Drive standardisation and reduce unwarranted variation
  • Use data to identify priorities and evidence improvement
  • Support innovation including digital solutions and new care models
  • Address health inequalities and improve access for vulnerable populations

Operational & System Leadership

  • Work closely with operational leaders to align clinical and service priorities
  • Contribute to service planning, performance and escalation management
  • Represent [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Group with NHS partners, commissioners and regulators
  • Participate in senior on-call and escalation arrangements, including major incident leadership

About You

Essential Criteria

  • Registered healthcare professional (NMC, HCPC or GMC)
  • Significant senior clinical leadership experience
  • Experience embedding governance frameworks and leading improvement
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams across multiple sites
  • Strong understanding of NHS policy, regulation and system working
  • Educated to Master’s level or equivalent experience

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience across NHS and independent sector settings
  • Background in service transformation or large-scale redesign
  • Leadership or management qualification
