Senior Commercial Manager
Our client is an established regional main contractor located in the East Midlands. They have a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects across education, healthcare, residential, commercial, and public sector frameworks. Due to growth, they are seeking a Senior Commercial Manager to join their commercial team.
The Role - Senior Commercial Manager
The Senior Commercial Manager will play a critical role in overseeing the commercial and contractual management of construction projects. Operating at the intersection of finance, contracts, and project delivery, the role ensures projects are commercially successful, risks are effectively managed, and client relationships are maintained to a high standard.
- Lead and participate in contract review meetings to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, identify risks, and manage variations and claims.
- Conduct and support interim and annual audits, ensuring financial accuracy, cost control, and compliance with internal procedures and external regulations.
- Manage client relationships, including resolving complex or challenging issues while protecting the company's commercial interests.
- Oversee and manage formal dispute resolution processes, including mediation, adjudication, and arbitration, in collaboration with legal advisors.
- Work closely with project teams on-site to support commercial decision-making, monitor cost/value reconciliation, and ensure contract adherence.
- Act as a key point of contact for external audits, providing necessary documentation and ensuring transparency in commercial processes.
- Review and manage subcontractor performance on a monthly basis, including valuations, payments, and contract negotiations to ensure value for money and project alignment.
Education, Skills & Experience
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (BSc or equivalent)
- Proven financial and analytical skills with experience in cost control and reporting
- Excellent negotiation and dispute resolution capabilities
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Strong IT proficiency, including Excel and cost management software
