We are currently recruiting experienced, PIP2-accredited investigators to provide backfill support to the Serious Sexual Offence Investigations (RASSO) teams in Cumbria.

Role Purpose

These roles will support RASSO investigations within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Two specialist groups are required:

  • PIP2 Investigators - Base: Kendal or Barrow. Conduct serious sexual offence investigations within CID.
  • PIP2 Investigators who are also Specialist Investigative Interviewers - Base: Carlisle or Kendal. Perform Achieving Best Evidence (ABE) video-recorded interviews with vulnerable witnesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough investigations into serious sexual offences in line with PIP2 standards
  • Gather, record, and retain intelligence and evidence in compliance with legal and procedural requirements
  • Interview witnesses and suspects, including performing formal ABE/Tier 3 interviews where applicable
  • Collaborate with investigative teams and other agencies to progress cases effectively
  • Maintain accurate case files and documentation in accordance with force policies
  • Provide investigative resilience and backfill for operational teams as required

Essential Criteria

  • PIP2 accreditation (mandatory)
  • Proven experience in investigating serious sexual offences (RASSO)
  • ABE/Tier 3 accredited (for Specialist Investigative Interviewer roles)
  • Strong understanding of investigative procedures and criminal justice processes
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive cases

Contract Details

  • Temporary 6-month contract
  • PAYE at £17.84 per hour
  • Locations: Kendal, Barrow, Carlisle (Cumbria)
  • Start: ASAP
