Job Type: Full Time - 48hrs pw, 12 hour shifts, 4 on 4 off days and nights

Salary: £14.80ph + excellent benefits

About the role

We’re looking for a professional and people-focused Security Officer to join our team at the University of Greenwich – Medway Campus, supporting a safe, welcoming, and well-managed environment for students, staff, and visitors.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing role where you’ll combine vigilance with approachability, providing visible security, responsive support, and a positive first impression every day. If you take pride in protecting people and places while delivering excellent service, we’d love to hear from you.

What You'll do

  • Act as a key front-of-house security presence for the university library and main buildings
  • Welcome and manage visitors and contractors, issuing passes and maintaining accurate entry/exit logs
  • Patrol, secure, and monitor premises using physical patrols and CCTV systems
  • Monitor alarms and CCTV feeds and take appropriate action when required
  • Respond quickly and calmly to incidents, emergencies, and fire alarms, supporting evacuations when needed
  • Control and record the issue of keys, access codes, and security equipment
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, staff, visitors, and contractors
  • Maintain accurate occurrence logs, incident reports, and shift handovers
  • Attend training and refresher sessions to maintain compliance and capability

What You Bring

We’re seeking someone who is alert, dependable, and service-driven – a security professional who understands that great security is also about great people care. You’ll be confident working independently and as part of a wider facilities and workplace experience team.

Essential:

  • Valid SIA Licence
  • First Aid at Work Certificate
  • Strong knowledge of security techniques and site protection practices
  • Experience using CCTV and alarm systems
  • Comfortable using computer-based security systems
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to write clear, accurate reports and logs
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection
  • Experience supporting fire evacuations and safety drills
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and within a team

Desirable:

  • CCTV Licence
  • Fire Warden certification
  • First Aid qualification (additional)
  • Knowledge of BS7858:2013 screening standards
