About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Furniture Technician to join our team at Merville Barracks, Colchester, CO2 7UT. This is a hands-on role supporting the delivery, repair, maintenance and management of furniture within a busy MOD environment.
The successful candidate will work as part of the Accommodation Services Unit (ASU), helping to ensure high standards of customer service and operational delivery are maintained across the site. This role would suit someone practical, reliable and customer focused with experience in furniture repairs, warehouse operations or maintenance support.
What You’ll Do
- Carrying out furniture repairs, maintenance and component replacements
- Delivering, assembling, repairing and replacing furniture across site locations
- Removing damaged furniture and disposing of items in line with procedures
- Responding to Help Desk Calls (HDCs) and ensuring tasks are completed within required timescales
- Recording and updating HDC information accurately on daily record sheets
- Preparing monthly audit paperwork and supporting stock audits
- Undertaking furniture audits using CAFM systems including Planet
- Selecting and preparing furniture or components required for repairs and maintenance
- Assisting with warehouse duties including loading and unloading deliveries and collections
- Maintaining warehouse cleanliness and organisation
- Ensuring furniture and component stock remains serviceable and available
- Updating handheld scanners daily, weekly and monthly as required
- Liaising with customers, unit representatives and colleagues to support service delivery
- Carrying out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
- Supporting monthly furniture and component stock takes
- Operating a forklift truck once trained
- Assisting colleagues and wider teams during periods of absence or increased workload
- Ensuring company vehicles are kept clean and maintained in a serviceable condition
- Following all Health & Safety procedures and maintaining safe working practices at all times
What You Bring
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Basic understanding of furniture repairs and maintenance
- Good understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good timekeeping and organisational skills
- Full UK driving licence held for a minimum of 2 years
- Must be over 25 years of age for company vehicle insurance purposes
Desirable
- Previous experience in a similar furniture, maintenance, warehouse or operational role
- Forklift experience or willingness to undertake training
- PAT testing experience
