Job Overview
We have a unique and exciting opportunity to recruit a Theatre Manager for the Roxburgh Hall venue at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]. We are looking for a proactive individual to oversee the day to day running of the theatre, managing long and short term scheduling for external users, supporting the work of the Drama Department in the instruction of pupils in Drama & Theatre and providing line manager support to the Theatre Technicians. You will provide a high quality theatrical and AV technical service, managing the operation, maintenance, and security of the theatre’s physical plant to ensure a clean, safe and comfortable facility. You will take on the responsibilities of a Production Manager for school productions; including running production meetings, setting schedules and deadlines, organising and overseeing the purchase and hire of specialist lighting, sound and audio visual equipment and set builds. You will manage the budget for the installation, maintenance and upgrade of all technical equipment and ensure all programmes meet artistic and budgetary goals. You will be a confident leader with clear communication skills, who enjoys working in a team but also independently. You will positively represent and advocate for the Roxburgh Theatre to continually enhance its image, visibility, and influence across both the School and local community. You will have experience of Theatre/Production work or have worked in a related field (Lighting or Sound Engineering).
Purpose of the Job
The Theatre Manager’s role is: To ensure effective use of the Roxburgh Theatre venue through liaison with The Director of Drama, the “[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]” public programme, [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] (the commercial trading company) and other users. To provide support for all users through a high quality theatrical and AV technical service. To work with the Theatre Technicians on production preparation and all planning and delivery throughout the year.
Duties
- Overseeing the day-to-day running of the theatre, providing a professional service to all users of the building, promoting the usage of all the facility has to offer
- Managing short and long term scheduling for all users
- Managing the budget for the installation, maintenance and upgrade of all technical equipment and ensuring all programmes meet artistic and budgetary goals
- Supporting the work of the Drama Department in the instruction of pupils in Drama & Theatre, taking responsibility for technical and design students
- Line management of the Theatre Technicians, including professional development, agreeing and monitoring hours of work, time off in lieu and holidays
- Taking on the responsibilities of a Production Manager for school productions; including running production meetings, liaising with relevant parties, setting schedules and deadlines, organising and overseeing the purchase and hire of specialist lighting, sound and audio visual equipment, set builds and strikes
- Assisting the Theatre Technicians where necessary across all aspects of production preparation, including sound, lighting and set creation
- Maintaining a safe and orderly working environment
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Leadership and Management of Staff: supervise and line manage Theatre Technicians; plan working hours; motivate staff; manage production teams; oversee events
- Theatre Administration: oversee day-to-day operation; coordinate scheduling; manage budget; purchase/hire equipment
- Maintenance of the Theatre and Equipment: manage operation, maintenance, security; ensure compliance with Health & Safety; oversee PAT testing; manage inventory
- Support for Drama Teaching: assist in training design students; provide technical support for lessons and exams
- Creative Role: work with Director of Drama, [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] to programme venue; create lighting and sound designs
- Marketing and Public Relations: represent and advocate for Roxburgh Theatre
Hours of Work
Hours depend on the programme; periods of intense production work followed by quieter times. Full time, 52 weeks per year, 40 hours per week to be worked flexibly including evenings and weekends. Annual leave to be taken in consultation with the Director of Drama and [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] representatives.
