Houseparent

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is looking for a dynamic Houseparent(s) to play a key role in our pastoral team. Queen's House was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2007 as a purpose-built boarding house for girls, age 13 to 18, and is currently one of the most popular choices for prospective pupils and their parents.

Contract type: Permanent

Hours of work: Full time, term time

Salary: An attractive and competitive salary

Job Overview

The Houseparent(s) will act as a visible role model for our pupils, providing a sense of community, inclusion and safety while ensuring high standards of behaviour, academic focus and full co-curricular engagement. You will be a warm and energetic character with excellent communication and organisational skills. You should possess the motivation and stamina to deliver unwavering support to your House pupils throughout their time at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].

The successful candidate(s) will be a member of the Teaching Staff and be expected to contribute to the Teaching timetable. A particular subject specialism is not specified for this role. The Houseparent(s) will live in private family-sized accommodation attached to the Boarding House.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • An Honours degree (or equivalent) in your subject(s) specialism.
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (desirable).

Specialist Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of three years’ experience, either as an Assistant/Under Houseparent or residential tutor.
  • Managerial and administrative experience commensurate with leading a team of House tutors and a Matron.
  • An ability to understand and contribute to the whole School ethos in co-operation with other Houseparents under the direction of the Deputy Head (Pastoral).
  • An ability to motivate, enthuse and influence with strong interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in loco parentis.

Personal Qualities

  • A willingness to participate in sporting and/or extra-curricular activities.
  • The ability to sustain working for long hours throughout term time.
  • A good sense of humour.
  • Patience and empathy with young people.
