Academy Safeguarding & EDI Officer

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking an Academy Safeguarding & EDI Officer. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Swansea. The role reports to the Head of Safeguarding and offers a competitive salary.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for ensuring that safeguarding and EDI are truly embedded within the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], creating a culture where everyone feels valued, safe and supported.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] to ensure the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s compliance with statutory obligations and safeguarding regulations.
  • Continuously work to maintain, embed and improve the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s safeguarding provision.
  • Support staff to respond appropriately to concerns about welfare or safety of vulnerable groups.
  • Work closely with the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] to assess host families.
  • Conduct risk assessments for extra-curricular activities including trips and tournaments.
  • Research, apply and promote diversity initiatives within the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].
  • Provide advice, guidance and support on equality and diversity matters.
  • Work closely with the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s EDI Lead to ensure compliance with EFL’s Code of Practice.
  • Facilitate parent workshops on safeguarding and EDI.
  • Actively promote and implement safeguarding and equality policy.
  • Produce monthly reports to the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s EDI Lead.
  • Use and keep up to date CPOMS.
  • Be a visible, accessible and approachable presence within the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].

General Responsibilities

  • Follow all [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Policies, such as Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Anti-Corruption & Bribery and GDPR.
  • Adhere to a strict Code of Confidentiality in respect of any information relating to [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and its operation.
  • Make suggestions to improve the working environment and contribute to positive employee relations within [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].
  • Take reasonable care for health and safety of yourself and others.

  • Ensure effective communication within your work team and across [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].

Person Specification

Skills, Knowledge & Experience (Essential)

  • Hold and maintain a sound understanding of government strategy, legislation, guidance and plans for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable individuals.
  • Hold and maintain a sound level of knowledge of developing and implementing safer recruitment practices.
  • Have sound understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and other relevant legislation.
  • Experience of offering safeguarding advice and support to colleagues, vulnerable groups and parents/carers within a comparable organisation.
  • Experience of working within professional sport (desirable).
  • Experience in contributing and working as part of a team (desirable).
