Data & Insights Lead

Role Overview

To develop and support evidence led decision making culture across the entire Football department at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a strategy to develop the use of data across all Football departments - Performance, Scouting & Recruitment, Analysis, Coaching, Player Care, Operations
  • Work in collaboration with Department Heads to support, challenge and develop ways of working
  • Manage the Football departments use of technology & software in conjunction with the Head of IT.
  • Create and develop in house models to give insight that specifically aligns to the Club’s philosophy and objectives
  • Ensure the Club stays ahead of the curve in new developments within data and technology

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics or Economics.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Good knowledge of statistical programming languages (R or Python)
  • Experience using relational databases and programming with SQL
  • Good knowledge of data visualisation tools (preferably Tableau)
  • Familiarity of using football data sources (e.g Opta, Statsbomb, Skill Scorner, Second Spectrum, Catapult, Vald etc)

Desirable: Experience with Web development programming languages (PHP and HTML), Experience using ETL tools.

Attitude/Behaviours: Ability to engage with and influence key stakeholders; Advanced and creative presentation skills; Ability to work to tight deadlines and willingness to work evenings and weekends where required.

Personal Qualities: Project management methodology; Good knowledge and tactical understanding of Football.
