About the Role
Working within the 1st team Performance department, the Head Physiotherapist will be responsible for managing the physiotherapy and soft tissue therapy provision to 1st team players. An important part of the role is to ensure that all therapists maintain appropriate qualifications, and that CPD and DBS requirements are undertaken on an annual basis or as required. In addition, the individual will manage external consultants to provide specialist support to the 1st team squad on an individual and team focus.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead prevention, diagnosis, acute management and rehabilitation of all injured players
- Demonstrate and deliver expert technical assessment and diagnostic skills ensuring individualised and relevant treatment plans
- Be responsible for ensuring the physiotherapy department maintain detailed records of all actions in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
- Be compliant with all professional, clinical, and integrated governance standards and participate in clinical audit and other quality assurance processes
- Drive the development and delivery of evidence-based protocols for all areas of physiotherapy and soft tissue therapy provision
- Liaise with the Club Doctor to manage medical consultations of injured players
- Lead daily medical pre-training individual player management meeting
- Keep up to date with clinical, scientific, and technical innovations, attending meetings, courses and seminars as required
- Ensure departmental individual qualifications, training and CPD requirements are kept up to date
- Meet the standards and code of conducts set by the CSP and HCPC
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including physiotherapists, physical performance coaches and technical staff
- Provide feedback to the Head of Performance on all aspects of physiotherapy provision
- Develop methods to measure the impact of physiotherapy within the performance strategy
- Encourage an interdisciplinary approach of working within the performance department that includes close links to all areas of the Club
- Carry out any other reasonable management requests
Person Specification
Qualifications - Essential
- Undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy
- Postgraduate degree in Sports Physiotherapy, Sports and Exercise Medicine, S&C or related subject
- HCPC registered
- Member of CSP
- First Aid Qualified (FA Level 5 ATMMiF)
Qualifications - Desirable
- Evidence of an extensive and structured CPD portfolio – including post graduate qualifications demonstrating a range of different clinical skills e.g., manipulative therapy, movement dysfunction assessment, soft tissue mobilisation/manipulation, acute injury management, acupuncture etc.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience - Essential
- A minimum of 4-5 years post MSc qualification experience in the provision of physiotherapy to professional players in an elite sporting environment
- Excellent clinical reasoning
- Experience in working well in a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of medical services
- Excellent range of treatment and rehabilitation skills
- Experience of using data & medical management systems to ensure the secure and efficient storage of data & confidential information
- Experience of working in pressurised situations and to deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and IT skills
- Ability to adapt and change at short notice
Skills, Knowledge and Experience - Desirable
- 1-2 years’ experience of leading and managing a small team of health care professionals at 1st Team level
