Job Title: Academy Therapist

Job Description

Working within the Academy Medical department the therapist will work and support across all age groups and phases. The therapist will be responsible for the assessment of injuries, gym, and pitch-based rehabilitation, as well as match day cover. Furthermore, the role will include delivery of the Academy physical literacy programme to the FP, under the guidance of the physical development staff.

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] will offer the successful Therapist an extensive CPD programme, with access to both Academy and First Team CPD sessions, as well as a personal CPD budget. Extensive support/mentoring will be given to the successful candidate from all therapists within the medical department.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To work within the Academy medical department, directed by the Head Academy Physiotherapist, across all age groups, to assist and deliver injury assessments, treatments, and rehabilitation
  • Provide weekly FP injury overviews to FP MDT
  • Match day medical cover across the Academy games programme
  • Assist with MSK screening & profiling of all Academy players
  • Record injury assessments, treatments, and rehabilitation on the Performance Management Application (PMA)
  • Ensure departmental individual qualifications, training and CPD requirements are kept up to date and in line with any applicable regulations
  • Meet the standards and code of conducts set by the CSP and HCPC
  • To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including physiotherapists, physical development coaches and technical staff to optimise player physical development and performance
  • Participate in key topic research to provide clinically based evidence for current and new medical practices
  • Participate in internal and external professional development activities and demonstrate a commitment to undertake on-going formal education programmes
  • Carry out any other reasonable management requests

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

  • Undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy, Sports Therapist, or related subject
  • 1st Aid Qualified (FA Level 5 ATMMiF) (or ability to obtain within 3 months)
  • Registration with respective governing body (e.g., HCPC)
  • DBS check undertaken

Qualifications Desirable

  • FA Safeguarding Certificate
  • Evidence to show a desire for continued self-development

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Essential

  • Experience of working with adolescents within a sporting environment
  • Good understanding of paediatric injuries and management
  • Experience of working in pressurised situations and to deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and IT skills
  • Ability to adapt and change at short notice

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Desirable

  • A minimum of 6 months working full-time/part-time within sport in an elite sporting environment
