Lab Manager
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Lab Manager to lead the embryology and andrology team at its Belfast clinic. This is a full-time, on-site position working 37.5 hours per week with weekend rotation and on-call at approximately 1:4. The role involves performing advanced embryology and andrology procedures, managing quality systems, resource planning, staff training, and ensuring compliance with HFEA regulations. A degree in Life Science, state registration, and a minimum of 8 years clinical experience including senior/management level are required. Salary is competitive depending on experience, with a dual contribution pension, 27 days holiday plus bank holidays, and opportunities for professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform embryology and andrology procedures: semen analysis, ICSI, fertilisation checks, embryo culture, transfer, biopsy, and cryopreservation.
- Recruit, screen, and manage gamete donors in line with regulations.
- Ensure accurate patient records, effective consent, and communication of results.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, cleanliness, air quality, and cryostore operations.
- Implement and maintain quality management systems, audits, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with national regulations, professional guidelines, and [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] policies.
- Manage Health & Safety, risk assessments, and laboratory documentation.
- Oversee laboratory KPIs, service improvements, and patient satisfaction initiatives.
- Manage equipment, stock, staffing levels, recruitment, training, rotas, and budgets.
- Lead induction, training, competency assessments, and performance management of staff.
- Support professional development and continuous learning of the laboratory team.
- Manage witnessing, traceability, gamete/embryo transport, and regulatory notifications.
- Support research planning, implementation, and reporting.
- Chair lab meetings, attend clinic management meetings, and contribute to strategic planning.
- Represent [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] at group meetings, industry events, and patient-facing initiatives.
- Foster collaboration across functional areas and support clinic-wide objectives.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, employee, and company information.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential: Degree in Life Science, State Registered/Nationally Registered Scientist (or immediately eligible to apply), minimum 8 years clinical experience including senior/management experience, in-depth knowledge of clinical embryology biology, understanding of related disciplines, knowledge of prevailing national legislation, experience with quality assurance/quality control in laboratory, experience with quality management system, resource planning experience, experience in training junior staff and performance management. Desirable: MSc or PhD, RCPath Part 1 or 2, ESHRE Certificate, Leadership/Management qualification, quality management experience, PGT experience.

Working Hours: 37.5 Monday to Friday (weekend working at approx 1:4, remunerated with TOIL/overtime)
On-Call: Approx 1:4 in coordination with weekend (daily rate of pay in addition to basic salary)

Holiday Entitlement: 27 Days + Bank holidays (pro rata)
