About The Role

The FAIR Programme is an academic industrial collaboration aiming to develop an actionable framework for trustworthy and reliable AI adoption at scale within Financial Services. Key challenges include: development of robust AI assurance frameworks, advancement of AI-powered financial crime detection, and design and development of trustworthy agentic workflows. ROLE PURPOSE
The successful candidate will play a central role in advancing the FAIR programme’s mission to become the trusted authority on AI innovation within the financial services sector. This role will develop and evaluate models, conduct cutting-edge research, collaborate with a world-class team, and contribute to real-world impact. The successful candidate will join a vibrant research community of over 20 researchers from top UK universities, collaborating with experts such as: Sam Cohen, Gesine Reinert, and Marta Kwiatkowska (Oxford); Carsten Maple and Graham Cormode (Warwick); Adrian Weller (Cambridge); Philip Treleaven, Ni Hao (UCL); Lukasz Szpruch (Edinburgh). We are looking for a passionate, forward-thinking individual who wants to make a meaningful impact.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Conduct original research in AI/ML, addressing complex technical challenges and lead a team of researchers.
  • Support policymakers, regulators and financial services by providing advice, attending workshops and giving talks.
  • Lead on writing and manage delivery of reports capturing best practice for industry, blogs and insight reports.
  • Support building the PAIF community at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], including workshops, bilateral meetings and dissemination events.
  • Support PIs in writing grant applications and submitting funding proposals.
  • Drive collaboration with academic experts and research partners across [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and wider project community.
  • Contribute to strategic leadership of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and take strategic ownership and technical project management for the team.
  • Carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions and research groups.
  • Represent the project at internal and external events hosted by [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], our collaborators and/or the partner.
  • Work closely with other researchers, data scientists, software engineers, and product teams to translate research insights into scalable solutions.

About You

  • Experience in one or more of: technical ML, AI assurance, Synthetic Data Generation, LLMs orchestration, Anomaly detection, Bandits and RL, and AI policy development.
  • Understanding of technical and regulatory challenges facing financial services in operationalisation of AI, including generative AI.
  • Track record of initiating, developing and delivering high quality research aligned with research strategy and publishing in peer reviewed journals.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems, working independently and with team members.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience, including line management in a previous role.
  • Excellent publication record.
  • Experience initiating and managing collaboration with partner institutions and research groups.
  • Experience in design and prototype of novel AI algorithms, frameworks or systems pushing boundaries of current AI technology.

Terms and Conditions

This full-time post requires an immediate start and is offered on a 12 month fixed-term basis. The successful candidate must be in post by June 2026.
