Food Service Assistant (maternity cover)

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking an enthusiastic Food Service Assistant to join the Catering Department on a maternity cover basis. The role involves delivering excellent food service in a traditional college environment, working with permanent and casual staff. Candidates need experience in a similar role, strong interpersonal skills, ability to remain calm under pressure, and knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety. This is a fixed-term full-time role (typically 40 hours per week on a shift rota including evenings and alternate weekends) until 31 December 2026, with a salary of £28,875 per annum inclusive of shift allowance.

The Vacancy

The Front of House team at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Food Service Assistant to work within the busy Catering Department during a period of maternity cover. Headed up by the Front of House Manager, the team delivers excellent food service to a variety of customers in a traditional environment. The postholder, alongside other permanent and casual catering staff, will contribute to delivering an efficient, timely and professional service.

The successful applicant will have experience in a similar role. The postholder must ensure the highest possible standard of food service and have excellent interpersonal skills. They must be able to demonstrate that they are able remain calm and courteous, especially when under pressure, and to work flexibly and effectively as part of a team. As this is a front-of-house post, the post holder is expected to be smart and well-presented. Candidates must have good understanding of relevant Food Hygiene and Health and Safety policies and be willing to learn. Training will be provided.

This is a fixed term full-time role (typically 40 hours per week on a shift rota) until 31/12/26. The rota includes some evening work, alternate weekend working, and two split shifts per week, for which an allowance is paid (included in above salary).
