Junior Counsel

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is looking for two enthusiastic and motivated lawyers to join its busy Casework team. These newly created positions are designed to enhance [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]'s delivery of gold standard efficient and effective case management.

The [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is a pre-eminent international institution with a long-standing 130-year history. It plays a pivotal role in shaping the dispute resolution landscape. Disputes referred to the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] are managed by a sizeable and experienced Secretariat (comprising lawyers from more than 10 jurisdictions). The [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] prides itself on its international reach, institutional independence, and excellence in service.

Responsibilities

  • Updating the procedural timetable in the internal case management system, as requested by Counsel.
  • Covering and progressing cases when Counsel are on annual leave (or as requested), under the supervision of Senior Counsel.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate should have gained preferably 3 or more years’ experience working in international arbitration, have a keen interest in the area, and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and experience:

Essential

  • Law graduate (LLB or equivalent, or above)
  • Self-motivated team-player
  • Strong time management and administrative skills
  • Numeracy skills and should not be fazed by numbers
  • Recognise potential risk and compliance issues at an early stage
  • Able to work under pressure, proactively prioritise tasks, and multi-task
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both in writing and orally
  • Able to consider legal issues critically and with sound judgement
  • Approach cases in a practical, and not purely academic, way
  • Analytical and evaluative skills
  • Organised approach to work
  • Reliable, punctual and meet deadlines consistently
  • Take responsibility for own actions and demonstrate drive and enthusiasm
  • Recognise and suggest ideas for improvement
  • Achieve planned work and set own performance standards
  • Able to build strong working relationships

Desirable

  • Experience in Africa and/or Middle East
  • Arabic language skills

  • Full-time, permanent position (35 hours/week with core business hours of 9:30am – 5:30pm).
