Medical Secretary/Theatre Scheduler

This permanent, full-time role offers a salary of £25,760 to £27,476 a year (pro rata) and is office based at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Job Summary

Full time, permanent positions. Office based working. We are looking to recruit Medical Secretaries with a focus on Theatre Scheduling into our Urology admin team. This is an opportunity for successful candidates to be multi-skilled members of the Urology Admin and Clerical service, supporting patients on general urology and urology cancer pathways through timely correspondence and theatre scheduling. Candidates will need to demonstrate good organisational skills along with a willingness to learn and contribute to improvements in the service. The role will require candidates to work flexibly across all aspects of the role and is a pivotal part of the service. Full training and support will be given.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Responsible to the Administration Manager for the provision of an efficient personal secretarial service to the Consultant Team and supporting staff.
  • To be responsible for the co-ordination and transcription of audio files to produce clinical letters, reports etc., within acceptable timeframes.
  • Manage consultant waiting lists and schedule theatres, book pre op assessment and maximise theatre utilisation.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

  • 3 GCSEs including English (or equivalent), Grade C/Level 4 or above
  • RSA III typing or equivalent or working towards

Desirable:

  • NVQ in customer services administration

Experience

Essential:

  • Working under pressure/ meeting targets and deadlines
  • Working as part of a team / under own initiative.
  • Current experience of Microsoft word processing and spreadsheet packages
  • Experience using databases

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working as a medical secretary including medical audio transcription
  • Previous experience in the organisation of minutes, including minute taking and the typing of minutes and agenda
  • Maintain effective, accurate and efficient office systems including meditech.
  • Waiting List Management

Knowledge

Essential:

  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and understanding the 18 week policies
  • Knowledge of national and local access targets
